Roundup: BBA boys tennis remains undefeated

MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy boys tennis team kept its undefeated season going with a 7-0 sweep of Fair Haven on Monday.

The Bulldogs did not drop a set on the way to the win.

Peter Oh, Sam Cochrane, Noah Wetherald, Coley Stillman and Justin Tegen all won their singles matches, with Stillman and Tegen winning their matches 6-0, 6-0. Cochrane and Wetherald each dropped one game in their respective second sets, while Oh took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Youssef Rajia.

In doubles action, Conor Harrington and Nick Fayette won 6-0, 6-0 as did Cam Marcellus and Christian Webb.

BBA goes to 4-0 with the win and return to action today against Mount Greylock.

BBA girls lax rolls

RUTLAND -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls lacrosse team topped Rutland 18-5 on Monday behind a four goal, two assist effort from Morgan Bazyk.

Katy Jones added three goals and three assists while Hayley Sabol had three tallies of her own. Aggie Bisselle and Ryder Ferrone each added two goals, while Lucy Bisselle, Megan Grabher, Cat Greenberg and Casey Apps each had one goal.

On defense, Brianna Brockett helped to stifle the Rutland attack, which got two goals through Marina Rotella.

Lauren MacKenzie had four saves for the Bulldogs, who improve to 4-2 on the season. BBA returns on Friday at Hartford.

BBA girls tennis remains perfect

BRANDON -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls tennis team swept aside Otter Valley on Monday, winning 7-0 on the road.

Without No. 1 player Maddy Pugnucco, Jordan Harmon stepped into the top singles role and won 6-0, 6-2. Gabby Vella, Stella Oh, Eliza Breed and Silvia Velasco all won their singles matches in straight sets.

In doubles action, Megan Knight and Maria De Pablo won at first doubles, while Julia Breed and Haley McGrath won at second doubles.

Poultney blasts BBA

MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy softball team fell to Poultney 19-5 on Monday, with the Blue Devils jumping out of the gate with seven runs in the first inning.

BBA did most of its damage in the second inning. After drawing three walks to open the inning, BBA scored first when Lauren Gutierrez brought in two teammates. Kyle Gatewood and Katelyn Reilly added RBI singles in the inning.

Caitlyn Arellano took the loss despite only pitching one inning. Coach Dan DeForest turned to Darien Halliday to pitch the other six innings of the game. Emma DeBonis took the win for Poultney.

BBA falls to 0-3 and return to action today against Bellows Falls.

Benn Road Race May 4

BENNINGTON -- The 26th annual Steve Zemianek Bennington Road Race will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at the Park McCullough house in North Bennington.

This year's event is dedicated to the memory of local educator and marathon runner Gail Harwood. The race is produced and directed by the Batten Kill Valley Runners.

All net proceeds will be donated to the Mount Anthony Union High School Zemianek scholarship fund.

The kids race will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the 3.8K and 10K races will start at 10 a.m.

Registration is $15 in advance and $20 after May 1.

Runners can register online at Paper registration is available at Wills Insurance, Bennington Recreation Center, Off the Wall, Anytime Fitness, Bennington Sports Center and all schools in Bennington and North Bennington.
