Rocking the bowls

To the Editor:

What a great night! Empty Bowls at Long Trail School wishes to thank the Northshire Bookstore and Spiral Press Café for recently hosting Rock n' Bowl, the annual music and arts fundraiser that benefits the Manchester Community Food Cupboard. Thanks also go to local musicians from Alias Grace, So Far, Burr & Burton Academy and Long Trail School for providing outstanding entertainment, to the Long Trail Student Ambassadors for the opportunity to make bowls, and to community members who came and supported the event.

Northshire Bookstore generously donates 10 percent of its proceeds on the day of the event. With these proceeds and the donations received at Rock n' Bowl, the Manchester Community Food Cupboard received $1,300 to help with current costs. The timing could not be better with the CFC participating in the Feinstein Challenge this March and April. The Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island offers a million dollar grant to help fight hunger across the country. Donations made to CFC during March and April help bring a portion of that grant to the Northshire area.

If you missed this opportunity to help others in need, please know that the signature event is only a few weeks away! Empty Bowls at Long Trail School is a biennial event that supports local hunger related charities. Empty Bowls 2013 will be focusing its efforts on five local food pantries and the Community Sharing project. The main dinner and fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 5-8 p.m.

In case you want to get your hands dirty as a way to help, Empty Bowls at Long Trail School will be hosting two more community bowl making events in the next few weeks. "Reinvent the Wheel" will be held on Sunday, May 24 from 2-4 p.m. at Long Trail School and the LTS Ambassadors will be on the road again at the "I Matter, You Matter" event at Riley Rink on Thursday, May 28 from 6-8 p.m.

We hope to see you at a bowl making event and at our main event on April 6.
