Rizio golf scholarships awarded

DORSET - In memory of Joe Rizio and Richard Wood, four golf scholarships were awarded for 2013.

These scholarships, each for $2,000, were presented to Alexander Trayah (Arlington High School), Zachary Temple (Hartford High School), Garrett Brown (Lake St. Catherine Country Club) and Billy Ross (Lake Morey Country Club).

The monies raised for these scholarships come from the annual Rizio-Wood Memorial Golf Tournament, to be held this year at The Golf Club at the Equinox on Sunday, Aug. 18, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Two friends, Wood, a former golf pro for 16 years at The Golf Course at the Equinox, and Rizio - 25 year treasurer of the Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund - believed in helping local people entering golf-related professions and/or agronomy by providing some funding for the education of worthy applicants. To date, more than $50,000 has been given out in scholarships to 25 different recipients.

Everyone is invited to join in either on a team of players or as a sponsor. This tournament will include prizes and food and helps support local golf as well as remember Rizio and Wood.

Those who cannot play in the event may still show their support by sponsoring a team of players, sponsoring a golf tee, or by donating a prize or a gift certificate if they so desire.
