DORSET >> One of Vermont's five Regional One Act Festivals will be held at Long Trail School on Saturday, March 19. This one day event is a theater celebration where students from area schools perform one act plays. Two schools from each regional event will advance to the state festival at St. Johnsbury Academy on April 7 and 8.

The five schools attending Long Trail's festival are Springfield High School, Thetford Academy, Long Trail School, Green Mountain Union High School and Otter Valley Union High School. The day is filled with theatre workshops and presentations for the student actors. Community members who wish to attend a performance may purchase tickets for a block of two shows ($5) or $10 for all five shows. Photography is strictly prohibited by Vermont Principal Association rules.

Long Trail will perform its one act, "Sillyheart," at 3 p.m. In this piece, "a fairy-tale world revolves itself around the real drama of one little girl's battle with cancer and her family's anguish. As they struggle to cope with her prognosis and desperate treatment, the fairy tale characters from the little girl's book play out their own drama .At the end, we are reminded it's not just children who need fairy tales."

Other performances will include Springfield High School's "The Other Room," a story dealing with autism, at 10:30 a.m. followed by Thetford Academy's "Agnes of God" at 11:30. At 3 p.m, Long Trail will perform "Sillyheart" followed by Green Mountain's "Property Rites" at 4 p.m. The day's final performance will be Otter Valley's original piece entitled "Inevitable" at 7:30 p.m.
