Quarry hike, dog days and ice cream socials


DORSET >> There is a lot going on in town on July 9, thanks to two local non-profits: The Dorset Library and the Dorset Historical Society. Start the day with a hike to the town's historic Folsom Quarry. Meet at the Dorset Historical Society at Route 30 and Kent Hill Road at 9 a.m. to carpool to the trail head.

After their return, hikers – along with everybody else- will be welcome to attend the Dog Days of July cookout hosted by the Dorset Library across the road from 12-3 p.m. Back across the street, on the lawn of the Bley House Museum, DHS will hold its annual Ice Cream Social, serving ice cream from 1-3 p.m.

All dogs and their humans are invited to celebrate the Dog Days of July. Not only will there be a cookout, but returning guests Second Chance Animal Shelter will offer educational information and answer questions. At 2 p.m, Ann Gavett, trainer and owner of Pet's Etc. in Manchester will give a 15 minute demonstration of Fun and Fitness featuring Milla the Library Pug. There will be contests, prizes and a dog friendly cake to celebrate Milla's second Gotcha Day.
