Price Chopper: No expansion in the works

To the Editor: I'd like to clarify some major factual inaccuracies that appeared in Tuesday's article in the Manchester Journal regarding proposed changes at the Manchester Shopping Center Plaza (2/13/13 - Price Chopper Ponders Expansion) and today's article in The Bennington Banner (2/15/13 - Manchester Price Chopper Ponders Expansion), both written by Dylan J. Baker.

I spoke with Mr. Baker on Tuesday afternoon, so it surprised me to see that his stories and their headlines contained several inaccuracies and no comment from me.

While Price Chopper is always looking for opportunities to better serve our customers in all 130 locations across the six states in which we do business, we do not currently have any plans to expand our Manchester store.

As I confirmed for Mr. Baker before either article was printed, several prospective purchasers of the plaza have apparently proposed expansion plans to our Manchester store in recent months - none of which have been commissioned, authorized, or committed to by Price Chopper. And the plans attributed to Speath Engineering LLC, which Baker erroneously refers to as Price Chopper's engineer, are conceptual and have not been reviewed by Price Chopper.

To reiterate, while Price Chopper fully intends to continue serving the Manchester community, we have no plans at this time to expand our existing location. Thank you for allowing me to set the record straight on this matter.
