Players plan auditions


DORSET >> The Dorset Players will be holding auditions for their fall production of "Blithe Spirit" on Wednesday, Aug. 10 and Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Dorset Church at 7 p.m. Directed by Dom Degnon and produced by Lynne Worth, Noel Coward's comic play concerns a novelist who invites an eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati, to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. His scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his temperamental first wife after the séance as she makes continual attempts to disrupt his marriage to his second wife who cannot see or hear the ghost.

Opening on Broadway in 1941 after a huge success in England. "Blithe Spirit" ran for 657 performances and was later adapted into film in 1945 starring Rex Harrison. Roles are available for five females and two males. Comprising the female roles are Madame Arcati, the medium (age 45 plus): wives Elvira, the ghost, and Ruth, the current wife (ages 30 plus): Mrs.Bradman, neighbor and séance guest (age 40 plus) and Edith, the maid (late teens plus). The two males are Charles, the husband, and Dr. Bradman, a séance guest (ages 40 plus).

The show will run Oct. 7-9 and 14-16, at the Dorset Playhouse. Scripts are available for review by contacting Amanda at the Players business office between 9am and 1 pm, Monday through Friday at 802-867-5570.
