Peru native killed while being a Good Samaritan
Officer Charlene Fraser of the Clayton County Police said Sean C. Putnam, 23, of Peru, was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 285 West at Interstate 75 near exit 58 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Putnam, who was listed as an active-duty Army officer, had exited his vehicle after pulling over to help a woman whose car had broken down when he was struck by another vehicle, which caused a chain reaction accident involving six vehicles, according to Fraser. Putnam, who succumbed to his injuries on scene, was the accident's only fatality. Several others were injured.
Putnam was a recent graduate of Norwich University.
Cops: Traffic stop uncovers heroin
WINHALL - Winhall police reported that on Oct. 9, at 4:19 p.m., they stopped a motor vehicle on Winhall Hollow Road for a minor motor vehicle infraction.
The vehicle was owned and operated by Alexandra Thomas, 22, of Londonderry.
Police said further investigation and a search revealed Thomas was in possession of heroin and was operating with a suspended license. Thomas was arrested and cited to appear in Bennington County Superior Court Criminal Division to answer to the charge of possession of heroin and was issued a ticket for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, 3rd offense.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Winhall Police Department at 802-297-2121.
