Payne arrested for felony burglary
On March 27, officers were called to Maplefields on Main Street for a report of a male acting suspiciously in the store.
Upon arrival management informed the police that the male had been seen walking in and out of the office area of the store and had just left. The officer recognized the male to be Benjamin Payne.
Officers detained Payne while the store security tapes were reviewed.
A review of the tapes by the investigating officer showed Payne entering the office area and rummaging through personal property of store employees. He also removed several cartons of cigarettes and tucked them in his pants.
Payne was taken into custody without incident, transported to the Manchester Police Station without incident and charged with felony burglary. At the time of his arrest Payne was on parole on prior felony convictions.
He was held without bail, transported to Marble Valley Correctional and scheduled to appear in Bennington Superior Court on March 28.
