Passive heating, cooling, lighting workshop set

MANCHESTER >> The Manchester Community Library will be hosting Alan Benoit's popular Sustainable Living Series. These free presentations are geared toward increasing public awareness on all things green. Each Sustainable Living talk focuses on a different topic in the areas of energy efficiency, home design and gardening and includes an educational presentation, a hands-on demonstration and a case study of real-world examples. Presentations begin at 7 p.m.

Join Alan Benoit on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. for "Passive Heating, Cooling & Lighting." Benoit will demonstrate how we can heat without burning fuel, cool without air conditioning and light without using electricity. This workshop will present the systems used, show working examples, and demonstrate how, through proper design, passive techniques can be affordably incorporated into any building.

Benoit's presentations are noted for their captivating stories and fascinating photos. His education in engineering and passion for ecology combined with years of experience as a local architect give him a unique perspective on the integration of sustainability at all levels. Benoit volunteers on many local boards, was awarded the 2012 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence and was featured in Organic Gardening magazine along with his wife Nancy.

The Sustainable Living Series is free and open to the public. Manchester Community Library is located at 138 Cemetery Ave. in Manchester Center, VT. For more information, contact the library at 802-362-2607.
