Parenting class in Dorset

DORSET - The Dorset School will be hosting a parenting class "Parenting your in-be Tween" on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, 14, and 21 in the school library.

The class, which will be facilitated by Linda Mitchell, will be to help parents understand "Tweens" - children that are no longer children, but no yet teenagers - as they are in a new stage of physical, emotional, and cognitive growth and development.

Understanding this age and the stage in their children's life can help parents to continue to have a positive relationship with their children.

Many parents have asked for information, or ways, to keep communication open, knowing when to talk and when to listen, encourage cooperation, responsibility and interdependence, establish new family rules and limits and how to have consequences, teaching versus punishment, preventing and/or reducing "risk behaviors," and strengthening family bonds.
