Orvis picks dog winners

SUNDERLAND - Dog lovers have spoken and the winners of the latest round of the Orvis Cover Dog Contest have been chosen. Animal lover and Morris Animal Foundation supporter Betty White teamed up with the Orvis Company to announce the winners. Through the contest, now in its fourth year, the Orvis Company has helped raise more than $800,000 dollars for Morris Animal Foundation's research to prevent, treat and cure canine cancer. Dog owners from around the globe rallied friends and family to vote for their canine best friends' photo at orvis.com/coverdog. Each vote cost $1 and all proceeds benefited canine cancer research. Winners of the contest will grace the cover of the Orvis Dog Catalog, which is seen by millions around the nation.

"Many of our customers have lost their dogs to cancer or watched their family pet suffer from the disease," said Mike Quartararo, Director of Pet Merchandising for the Orvis Company. "At Orvis, we want to do all we can to help find ways to cure canine cancer and better treat those suffering from it."

To date, more 40,000 dog owners have submitted pictures to the contest, some in memory of dogs that have lost their battle with cancer and others just because the contest is a fun way to make a difference in the lives of man's best friend.

Part of that fun has been White's commercial, which features her attempting, and failing, to get a good picture of her dog for the Orvis cover. Today, on the Orvis and Morris Animal Foundation websites, White announced the most recent cover dog winners.
