Open letter of thanks
To the Editor:
On behalf of the Green Mountain National Forest and the National Incident Management Team, I want extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all local communities for your assistance during the 2016 National Rainbow Family gathering. Managing such a gathering takes a lot of community involvement and quality partnerships to achieve a safe and successful outcome. With your assistance we were able to meet that objective.
Your support was valuable and made our management of this large gathering much easier. We recognize the impacts to the businesses, public services and local residents from the thousands of additional people coming to the area. It is our hope the positive experiences with this gathering outweigh any negatives that may have occurred. We very much appreciate the communities of Danby, Mt. Tabor, Peru, and Landgrove for providing facilities for our information sharing town hall meetings. Thank you to the local residents who attended these meetings and candidly expressed their concerns. Additional thanks go to the staff at Rutland hospital for your help and consideration of the medical needs that arise with incident support of this size.
Many thanks go to the Currier Memorial School board for generously providing the school for our Incident Command Post. We recognize the impact to the plans you may have had to prepare the school for the upcoming school year. I would also like to thank you for welcoming employees from national forests across the country who came to work with employees on the Green Mountains for this event. Your hospitality was highly recognized and very much appreciated.
Forest Supervisor, Green Mountain National Forest
