Not the Same

To the Editor: In a column on a new biography of Normal Rockwell (1/24/14), Don Keelan complains that the painter "is described as having possible mental illness, pedophilia tendencies, aversions to females, deep attractiveness [sic] to males and a host of other personality traits."

In this stunning example of primitive religious dogma that not even Pope Francis would support, Keelan lumps homosexuality with pedophilia - an adult's sexual lust for children - as a "negative" personality trait. If Keelan - or anyone else - were to make a comparably glaring racist statement, it would probably never see the light of print. Yet despite how far we've come, blatant homophobia apparently still passes journalistic muster.
