New reporter in town - Anna Boarini
Anna M. Boarini comes to the area from Indianapolis, Ind. She graduated this past spring from Saint Mary's College, a women's college in South Bend, Ind., where she earned degrees in history and political science.
While at Saint Mary's, she obtained a varied background in journalism.
During the summer of 2012, she worked as an editorial and writing intern for Today's Youth Asia, developing content for a television station based in Kathmandu, Nepal. She worked as a reporting intern at the South Bend Tribune earlier this year, and also served as an assistant news editor for The Observer, the campus newspaper for Saint Mary's College.
Moving to Vermont and the New England region was a big step, but Boarini said she was excited about the challenge and looking forward to getting to know the neighboring area, people and towns.
"I've always loved newspapers and the New England region," she said. "Working here, covering the news is a great place to start my journalism career." Boarini will be covering local news around The Journal's coverage area, which not only includes Manchester and Dorset but all the towns between Arlington and Danby, along with Pawlet, Rupert and all the "mountain towns, " such as Winhall, Londonderry, Weston, Peru and Jamaica. We're not forgetting about Landgrove or Sunderland either.
The Journal conducted an extensive search to find its new reporter, advertising on several journalism websites as well as traditional print ads in local media.
The nature of journalism is changing rapidly, and reporters today must know not only how to write clear and effective newstories, often on tight deadlines, but be comfortable and familiar with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, blogging and basic websites. An ability to take short video clips and photographs are also required skills as well, said Managing Editor Andrew McKeever.
"We're extremely pleased to have added Anna to our team, and we think our readers across the Northshire will as well," he said. "She brings some youthful enthusiasm, coupled with a lot of experience already, along with familiarity with the digital tools that are reshaping the news industry." Anna Boarini began her career at The Journal this week. She can be reached at 802-362-222, ext. 109, or by e-mail at aboarini@ manchesterjournal.com.
