New assistant town clerk
Robin Owens of Dorset started work Monday, filling the position vacated by Anita Sheldon,
Sheldon was appointed interim town clerk after Linda Spence, town clerk since 1996, passed away in June. The assistant position is not elected, but rather is chosen by town clerk.
Owens said she applied for the position because she wanted a job with more flexibility that gave her weekends free to spend with her two grandchildren. While Owens has not held a position similar to this before, she said her experience in customer service will be helpful.
"I've done customer service for 33 years at Shaw's customer service," she said.
She said she is most excited to learn all the new aspects of her job. She and Sheldon attended a class on Monday to learn more about the voting tabulation machines.
"It's only day two, and there's lots of information to absorb," she said. "I like to think it's going to be wonderful."
