New application period for marijuana dispensary registration

WATERBURY- The Vermont Department of Public Safety has announced that in accordance with provisions set forth in Title 18 Chapter 86, Vermont's therapeutic use of cannabis, the department is re-opening the application process for businesses to obtain a Marijuana Dispensary Registration Certificate.

The statute authorizing the dispensaries allows up to four to operate concurrently throughout the state. Currently Dispensary Registration Certificates have been issued to businesses in Burlington, Montpelier and Brandon; therefore leaving one remaining registration certificate available.

The rules for Vermont's therapeutic use of cannabis, known as the Vermont Marijuana Program (VMP), govern the procedures for issuing a certificate of registration to a dispensary; registry identification cards to qualified patients, caregivers; and qualified principal officers, board members, and employees of dispensaries. The VMP rules also govern confidentiality, payments of fees, and enforcement of these rules. To obtain rules and an application, visit

The closing date for applications is Sept. 3, 2013 at 4:30p.m., and must be accompanied by the $2,500 non-refundable application fee. Mark submission envelopes with 'Marijuana Dispensary Application'.
