MSS names dean

MANCHESTER - Maple Street School has announced that Joy Stewart, Maple Street's upper school math teacher, has been appointed as the school's Dean of Academics and Faculty, a newly created position. Stewart will be he first to hold that position.

She has served in many capacities since joining the faculty in 2002. After spending four years teaching kindergarten and obtaining her masters degree in mathematics from the University of Vermont, she made the decision to move to the upper school and teach math, grades five through eight. In her role as Head of the Math Department, she led the faculty in researching and implementing the Bridges Mathematics curriculum K-4 and later introducing GMADE, a diagnostic assessment used to evaluate student and school-wide progress. With her strong organizational skills, Stewart also served as a leader of the 2010 NEASC reaccreditation process.
