Mountain Towns REd seeks merger study committee volunteers


MOUNTAIN TOWNS >>The Mountain Towns RED is seeking volunteers for the Act 46 Study Committee.

School board and community representatives from Danby, Dorset, Manchester, Mt. Tabor, Sunderland and the Mountain Towns RED (Landgrove, Londonderry, Peru and Weston) will be meeting to draft a plan following Act 46 guidelines to consolidate all these towns into one unified school district with one school board, administration, budget, and tax rate

The committee will convene soon in April and meet frequently throughout the summer to complete and submit the plan to the Vermont Agency of Education by October 2016.

Responsibilities include attending meetings to learn about Act 46 requirements and the current governance structures and concerns of all the participating towns, and working with committee members and a consultant to lay the groundwork for a new consolidated

district to begin full operation in 2018.

Committee members will also reach out to inform local community members throughout the process, especially before the ballot vote in December 2016.
