WEST PAWLET - Brooke DeBonis, Principal of the Mettawee Community School, has announced that Patty Lea, 6th grade teacher, has received a Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union Teacher Recognition Award for 2013 and Lisa Hoyt, music teacher, has been recognized as an UVM Outstanding Teacher for 2013.

Both awards were revealed at the BRSU's Back-to-School in-service program in August.

"Patty is a fabulous teacher and she puts in a lot of energy into creating a positive experience for her students," said DeBonis. "This past year the students made so much growth and became extremely close because she created such a safe and positive learning environment in her classroom." DeBonis also praised Hoyt for her committment to her students.

""Lisa is an excellent music teacher who goes above and beyond to help her students to succeed," she said. "She continues to be eager to try new things which gives the students an opportunity to be creative and to take risks. Lisa uses every opportunity to connect with her students and to challenge them musically. Lisa spends a great deal of time and energy on our All-School Production to be sure all students are prepared, challenged, and successful for this event."

Hoyt, accompanied by DeBonis, recently attended the UVM Outstanding Teacher luncheon in Burlington.
