Merger committee seeks community members

Dear Manchester Community Members,
I am writing this letter to urge the dedicated community members of Manchester to participate in a committee to explore school district consolidation. You may be aware that a new law, Act 46, will require school districts to consider consolidating with other districts. To that end, the Manchester, Danby, Dorset, Mt. Tabor, Mountain Towns RED, and Sunderland school boards have voted to form a formal merger study committee to explore our options under this law.
Manchester will have five representatives on this 17-member merger study committee. Two representatives of the committee are school board members: newly elected Jim Lind and myself. The School Board plans to appoint three other community members to the committee during its April meeting on Monday, April 11.
The School Board is interested in gathering letters of application from Manchester community members who are interested in serving on the merger study committee for the next year or so. The School Board believes strong candidates will be:
•able to work effectively with the committee members from the other communities;
•able to gather community input from all Manchester stakeholders; and
•willing to commit to putting in the necessary time to make this a successful process.
