McKeever to head GNAT news team
SUNDERLAND >> Andrew McKeever, former editor of the Manchester Journal, has been named to lead the newly created Community News and Citizen Journalism Program at GNAT-TV.
In his role as news director, McKeever will provide leadership and strategy for local news coverage, provide on-air reporting, and oversee content procurement and distribution. In addition, he will lead the training for the citizen journalism program.
"I'm extremely excited by this new opportunity and to build on past experiences," McKeever said. "The news environment continues to change and evolve with the advent of digital technology, and GNAT, with its video capabilities, is in a great position to harness all of those tools to deliver timely and useful information directly to viewers."
"Andrew brings the journalistic experience and a local connection to the project," said Tammie Reilly, executive director at GNAT. "His addition to the GNAT team will enhance our abilities to provide real and local journalism.
"The News Project" will feature local newsmakers and focus on issues impacting Southern Vermont. Content will include items such as local government reporting, state legislative updates, business and economic news, arts, entertainment and hyper-local issue-based reports in both written and video form.
The program will eventually include a citizen journalism component to train and empower citizens to use digital media to tell their own stories. The local content will be distributed on GNAT's Comcast Cable Channels and on its website: www.gnat-tv.org.
