Matt Harrington | From the Chamber: Bon Appetit, Restaurant Week

The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to participate in a weeklong culinary event. "Restaurant Week" is a new program that the Chamber is launching to help our local restaurants and dining establishments see some extra foot traffic in the beginning of spring. Diners can visit any participating, Chamber member restaurant from Saturday, March 19 through Sunday, March 27 and enjoy a delicious meal for only $20.16.

Each participating restaurant will offer a unique culinary menu that fits within that price. Some may offer single lunches, lunches for two, and/or a 3-course dinner meal.

The concept of a Restaurant Week is nothing new and some of the best in the world can be found regionally in New York City or Washington, D.C. Historically, Restaurant Weeks drive not only traffic and commerce to the participating restaurants, but have also contributed to tourism and in turn, have helped motels, stores and other local businesses.

Diners are encouraged to make advanced reservations with restaurants for this event to ensure seating. Prices do not include beverages, tax or gratuity. Upgrades may also be available at certain restaurants for example additions like shrimp or an appetizer.

To add to the excitement, the Chamber is also hosting a contest. After the week is complete come by the Chamber with two proofs of purchase (receipts) that you did indeed participate in Restaurant Week and be entered to win some pretty hefty prize baskets (valued at over $100)! You can also take a picture of both receipts and email us at to be entered to win.

So look around town, you will start to see green signs in restaurants go up indicating that certain restaurants are participating in our Restaurant Week. We will also be active on social media and our website to inform followers where to go and what special entrees are being served so be sure to like our page and visit our website

The idea behind this program is of course to put "hineys" in the seats of our great restaurants. But perhaps more importantly, it's to build a sense of community and support. Even as we walked around signing up restaurants to participate the general sense was one of camaraderie among the restaurants. Most owners are friends with one another and work together to figure out the best vendors, prices, and food. In a world that seems to get more cutthroat, complex and money driven, it was refreshing and good reminder of what makes Bennington restaurants so unique – they take care of one another.

At the moment the current Chamber member restaurants that are participating (we will update this as we get more signing up) include: Madison Brewing, Kevin's Sports Pub & Restaurant, Jensen's, Donovan's, JC's Tavern, The Publyk House, Ramunto's, Pangea, The Tap House at Catamount Glass.

We encourage you, the citizens of Bennington, throughout the week of March 19, come on out and enjoy this great event. Stop on by a restaurant maybe you haven't tried before. Spring has sprung; we're ready to shake off the winter and enjoy in some spring fun, don't you think?

Always Onward,

— Matt Harrington is the executive director of the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce
