Maple Street School teacher to be Early Language rep.
"I am pleased to be able to serve early language teachers in this capacity as the NNELL representative," stated Lindenberg, adding "In Vermont we have so many creative and committed language teachers who are doing innovative work in their classrooms with young learners. I look forward to strengthening connections between teachers so that we can learn from each other and best meet the needs of our students."
Lindenberg, a native Vermonter, studied French herself when she was a student in elementary school and believes that this early experience helped shape her passion for the language and for teaching.
"It was fun to be able to use another language with my friends," she remembers. "My goal for my students is to inspire that same sense of enjoyment about using the language in a meaningful way."
Lindenberg, who has taught French at Maple Street School since 2001, is excited by the prospects presented by the NNELL liaison position, explaining, "2012 is the 25th anniversary year for NNELL, and one of the anniversary goals is to strengthen ties between members. Professional development opportunities are a critical avenue to achieving this goal."
In November, Lindenberg will represent Vermont early language teachers at the annual convention of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language, in Philadelphia. "I anticipate valuable opportunities to network with colleagues and to increase my knowledge of ongoing developments in foreign language pedagogy," said Lindenberg.
Opportunities for members of the community to use their own language skills exist locally at Mark Skinner Library, where Lindenberg and BBA teacher Michelle Emery will lead a French conversation group, starting Oct. 25.
BBA German teacher Barb Miceli and Spanish teacher Sue Ritchie also lead language conversation groups, which meet twice a month from late October until early June. Contact the library at 362-2607 for more information.
