Manchester arts studio to offer summer camp
MANCHESTER >> Information about the newly opened Manchester Arts Studio and Gallery's schedule of summer camps is now available on its website(www.manchesterartsvt.com) and in brochures around town. Stacy Gates, owner of Manchester Arts, will be offering eight weeks of camps with something for all children going into grades K – 8.
Gates will be teaming up with The Downtown School for two different camp sessions. During the week of June 20 – June 24, campers will enjoy Art and Nature Camp, exploring nature, going on hikes, investigating the pond and learning about plants, animals and insects and using natural materials to create a variety of art projects. During the week of Aug. 8 – 12, campers will experience the 2016 Olympics. In the mornings, campers will learn about the traditional events, create their own imagined ones, and design an Olympic village. Olympic inspired art projects will be completed in the afternoon. Both these camps are for children going into Grades K –3.
A third week of camp for children in grades K – 3 , "Summer Celebration and Little Engineers," will be held on July 18 –July 22. In the mornings, topics such as the beach, gardening, and outdoor activities will be the inspiration for projects. Little Engineers, a STEAM based camp, will be held in the afternoon. Campers will build robots, use geometry to make quilt designs, create exploding paint, and design different types of structures.
Manchester Arts will offer two weeks of a Ceramics/ Minecraft themed camps. Campers will use the new ceramics studio to learn handbuilding, wheel throwing and coiling techniques in the mornings and then will have fun making projects inspired by the popular computer game, Minecraft. Campers in Ceramics can return to the studio to glaze their projects free of charge. These camps are for children going into grades 2–5 and will be held on July 5 – 8 (4 days only) and Aug. 15 – 19.
For fans of Harry Potter, Manchester Arts will be offering "Magic for Muggles" during the week of July 25 – 29. Campers will have their afternoons filled make wands, golden snitches, potions, magic spells and wizards. In the morning, they will create art inspired by a variety of summer activities. This camp is for grades 2 – 5. Several Fashion Design, Jewelry and Sewing camps will also be offered. For children in grades 2 – 5, they will learn about jewelry design and techniques in the mornings and then will become Junior Fashionistas in the afternoon. They will use both machine and hand sewing to created new fashions and to personalize readymade clothing. This camp takes place during the week of July 11 – 15.
Manchester Arts also offers a full day fashion design camp for children in grades 5 – 8. In the mornings, campers will work with Kate Franklin on fashion sketching and illustration, creating a mood board and designing their own fashion collection. Campers will learn sewing techniques in the afternoon to create their own clothing and to see how they can repurpose existing garments.
Camps run daily from 9 – 4 p.m. with half day options available for a number of camps. Extended hours in the afternoon are also an option. During all camps sessions, campers will have ample opportunity for playing outside and being involved in a variety of games and activities. Snacks are provided each afternoon. Manchester Arts also offers its families a sibling discount when signing up for the same camp.
