LTS Students head to Edinburgh Fringe Festival

DORSET - Fifteen Long Trail School students will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, to perform at the world-renowned Fringe Festival in August of 2014, thanks in part to a very generous anonymous donation. The Long Trail School drama program, under the direction of Tracey Wesley, was selected by the American High School Theatre Festival to represent the United States as part of the AHSTF 2014 program. The AHSTF Board of Advisors, made up of college theatre professionals, reviews applications and identifies the top US high schools based on their most recent bodies of work, awards, community involvement, philosophies and recommendations.

Each year, thousands of actors, directors, writers, producers and audience members converge in Edinburgh to participate in the world's largest and most prestigious performing arts festival. The Fringe Festival includes over 2,000 different performances of music, theatre, dance and comedy during its three-week run.

Over the next year, the fifteen drama students and their parents will be hosting or participating in local events to raise funds for their two-week adventure to Scotland and England. In addition to substantial transportation and accommodation costs, the participation fee includes a workshop at the Globe Theatre in London, tickets to the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo and field trips to historic sites such as Stirling Castle.

The initial fundraiser will be at the Norman's Attic street fair in Arlington on Aug. 3, where students will sell bags of animal treats and handmade crafts. Contributions and donations toward the students' trip are welcome. Checks should be made payable to Long Trail School (Fringe in memo) and addressed to Laura Heinel, Business Office, Long Trail School, 1045 Kirby Hollow Road, Dorset, VT 05251.For more information, call 802-867-5717.
