Long Trail students walk and pedal to school
One student group rode to 1045 Kirby Hollow Road in Dorset from the center of Pawlet. This group was headed up by teachers Scott Worland and Hakan Brosnan who started from their homes in Middletown Springs. With a return ride at the end of their teaching days, these two men biked 44 miles in all. Another group came by bicycles from Manchester, with administrators Justin Bendall and Courtney Callo, teacher Paige Jackins and parent Steve Murphy meeting the students in the center of town and teachers Jen Rosenthal and Daniela Stewart joining them en route in Dorset. The Manchester group was also escorted at the beginning by Manchester and the Mountains Bike Club members Joe Miles and Alan Benoit. Head of School Steven Dear met the Manchester biking group en route as well.
While it may have taken a little scheduling, the trip was quicker than usual for some who usually ride a bus. The walkers gathered on the Dorset Green and came to school together, toting books on their backs.
More than 1,300 schools in the United States registered Bike to School Day events, according to www.walkbiketoschool.org.
