Letter to the editor: Join our crusade

Join our crusade

In 2016 4,050 people in Vermont were diagnosed with cancer. The sad reality is that insurances do not always cover all the needed treatments or medications needed or that the patient may be unable to work. When this happens they may have to make many difficult choices and may have to ask themselves -How can I feed my family? How will I keep them warm? Will I have enough gas to get to my treatment? Will my children understand why they will not have Christmas presents or an Easter basket? Will I be able to pay for my much needed medications this month?

And this is where the Cancer Center Community Crusaders can help with cards for gas or groceries, a fuel delivery, pre chemo dental work, helping to make a child's holiday a little nicer and so much more. And 10 percent helps with local research.

During the year the Crusader Crews are busy raising funds with Bingo, Chinese Auctions and raffles.

For two years the Crusaders have held a Cabin Fever Dance in February raising a large amount of money for patient needs.

Please consider joining us as a Crew, volunteer or Sponsor. Come share coffee, donuts, muffins and learn more about our grassroots organization on October 22 from 10 am - noon in the Hospital Employee Cafeteria on the ground floor.

You will feel good knowing that you have helped a person fighting cancer and they will know that we do care about them.

If you have questions please call Erica at 442-2432 or Joanne at 442-6106.

— Erica Roger, tri-chair, Cancer Center Community Crusaders Bennington
