Group seeking candidates for school boards

At the end of last school year, many procedural questions arose based on the hiring process the SVSU superintendent employed when hiring MAU's high school principal. As a result, some concerned community members formed a group to ensure that our local school boards are making decisions that best serve the educational interests and needs of our students. As tax payers and community members, we feel that it is our responsibility to hold our administrators and boards accountable for their actions and to make certain they conduct business with transparency and openness.

We are a public group, and we invite any and all concerned citizens to attend. We have had some productive conversations with educators and community members, as well as past and present board members. In addition to improved transparency, honesty, and accountability, other issues we are working on include term limits, board membership limits, policies, and making sure the boards follow established policies and laws.

To this end, we are trying to find quality candidates to run for available school board seats. We plan to support these candidates through the election process and beyond. It is imperative that our students receive a quality education which happens when dedicated educators, administrators, school board members, and community members work with excellence in education as their goal. Please consider attending these meetings. You do not have to be a potential candidate in order to attend. You just need to have an interest in our students. Our next meeting is Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at Community College of Vermont in Bennington.
