Letter to the editor: Donate locally

Donate locally

No doubt you have heard that we should buy goods whenever possible from local merchants because it is helpful for our local economy. Similarly, we should buy foods grown locally whenever it is possible.

This is the season for giving and we need to think about giving locally. For example, the community would be more likely to benefit if you donate to the Cancer Center Community Crusaders at SVMC than to the American Cancer Society. Both are good organizations but only one focuses on the people who live here.

So think about your churches, your hospital, your Veterans Home, and your not-for-profit organizations when you make your donations.

— G. Richard Dundas Bennington
