Kudos to the Bennington County Conservation District and the Bennington County Sustainable Forest Consortium for the "Butchering Deer, a Primer for Hunters" workshop that was held recently on Oct. 12 at The Old Gray Barn in Rupert.
It was a fantastic fall day with approximately 25 of us attending. The workshop was informative, hands on and fun for all. Especially nice was the wonderful venison barbeque that followed.
We all participated in skinning, butchering, producing chef-ready cuts and boning. In addition we all went home with venison which we had cut up ourselves and butcher wrapped for the freezer! If they offer this workshop again, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Special thanks to Eric Nuse (retired VT Fish & Wildlife hunter education coordinator), Jim Henderson and their helpers.
