Join GMC for an East Dorset, Lye Brook, hikes

EAST DORSET >> On Saturday May 28, hike the East Dorset Trail, which is being rebuilt after many years and much remodeling by Hurricane Irene. The trail is mostly rebuilt though there will be some areas with scrambling.

Meet at the Peru Park and Ride at 8 a.m,, drive to one end of the trail and leave some cars and then drive to the other end for the hike - direction of the hike to be determined. The hike is between 5 and 7 miles with either a couple thousand feet of elevation gain or or loss depending on direction. Bring some extra clothing, food, fluids. Poles are really helpful for this moderately difficult hike. RSVP Bob Whitney 802-375-4125 or email

Lye Brook Falls

On Sunday, May 29, meet at 1 p.m. at the Lye Brook Falls Trail parking lot in Manchester. Hike the Lye Brook Falls Trail up to the turn off for the falls and follow the side trail almost to the falls. Bushwack through the woods to the site of a large old ruin and explore the site. Then bushwack back down to the parking lot. Bring an extra layer, some snacks and fluids, wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots. Poles are helpful for this moderately difficult hike. RSVP to Keld Alstrup at 802-362-1422 or email
