Hunters supper at Stratton Town Hall

WARDSBORO - The Wardsboro Fire Department will be holding a hunter's supper on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Stratton Town Hall.

The community wide dinner is a fund-raiser that supports all volunteer first responders in Wardsboro - which include both the fire department and the rescue squad.

Diners are seated continuously starting at 5 p.m., on a first come basis, and tickets are sold at the door for $10 per person and $5 for kids age 12 and under. Take out is also available.

The Stratton Town Hall is next to the Town Office at 9 West Jamaica Road at the intersection with the Stratton-Arlington Road. It is located along a residential, country road, not far from the Stratton resort area.

The menu includes: roasted fresh turkey and pan-made gravy, mashed potatoes and squash (both hand-peeled, hand-chopped and hand mashed), boiled onions, cole slaw, bakery bread, and a selection of homemade pies for dessert.

Wardsboro is a small, rural town located along Route 100, just a few just a few miles from Mount Snow resort and Stratton Mountain, and the Green Mountain National Forest. There are fewer than 900 year-round residents.

Large portions of the town were among the hardest hit areas in Vermont during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 due to the unprecedented flooding of the local brooks, and at that time, every person in the community saw first-hand the importance of having a fire and rescue department that is well-trained and well-equipped to respond in a disaster. Although the Wardsboro Fire and Rescue Department is supported in part by local tax dollars, the the members must also rely on donations for upgrading and maintaining their equipment to professional standards.
