Hostas subject of garden club meeting

MANCHESTER - The Manchester Garden Club will be meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at First Congregational Church at 1 p.m. for a program on "Not Your Grandmother's Hostas Anymore!"

Sue Anderson, a New Hampshire Master Gardener, President of the New England Hosta Society and owner of Mason Hollow Nursery in Mason, N.H., will speak on the history of hostas including growing, propagating and diseases affecting them. She will discuss planting in the shade garden with companion perennials such as ferns, ornamental grasses and specialty conifers as well as native trees and shrubs.

There is a $5 fee for non-members.
