Holiday decorating contest planned

MANCHESTER >> Equinox Terrace will host an interactive and heartwarming seasonal tradition. Local businesses, schools, organizations and individuals are invited to participate in Equinox Terrace's "Parade of Trees" tree decorating competition with a heartfelt twist. Members of the public are asked to purchase and decorate a two-foot, artificial Christmas tree and bring it to Equinox Terrace to compete for a cash prize. The trees will be on display in the community, and members of the public are welcome to come out and vote for their favorite. First place receives $200, second place $150 and third place $100. In addition, Equinox Terrace will donate $50 to each winner's favorite local charity.

Competitors' entries will be accepted at Equinox Terrace (324 Equinox Terrace Road) between Monday, Dec. 7 and Friday, Dec. 11.

From Monday, Dec. 14, through Friday, Dec. 18, the trees will be on display and voted on by the public. The winners will be announced during a special party on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m., complete with refreshments prepared by the community's culinary team.

An award for "Best Student Entry" will be given for the age categories: K-4th grade, 5th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade. Winners will receive $100 for their school, team or club, or the entrant if preferred.

While Equinox Terrace decorates their community with Christmas spirit every year, they wanted to share in the holiday spirit with the outside community and allow residents to participate in this festive tradition.

"This is the second year we've done a holiday-themed competition," said Ann Bouza, executive director of Equinox Terrace. "Last year we did a gingerbread house competition and had a wonderful response from the outside community; the residents just loved seeing the beautiful creations on display. We're so excited to see what people come up with for this new twist on our contest. It just doesn't feel like the holidays without a Christmas tree, and we know that all of these trees will get everyone into the spirit of the holidays."

Those interested in learning more about the competition or wish to enter should contact the concierge at Equinox Terrace at 802-362-5141. Entry forms can be picked up at the community Monday through Friday before 5 p.m. from the concierge in the front lobby. For complete competition rules, contact Equinox Terrace.
