Hildene Bird Survey set

MANCHESTER - The monthly bird survey will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home. Participants should meet at the Visitor's Center at 8 a.m. to bird around the main house and then move to the open fields and wetlands off the River Road.

There has been a huge influx of Snowy Owls from Canada into the northern states, including Vermont. The closest reported Snowy is around the Killington area. The group will definitely be on the lookout for one as well as other 'snow birds' - Horned Larks, Snow Bunting and Rough-legged Hawks.

The free monthly bird walks are conducted as a collaborative event by the Vermont Bird Place & Skywatch and Hildene. They are open to all who enjoy birds, nature and the outdoors. Binoculars are available to borrow. Wear appropriate dress for the day. Contact Randy at 802. 362. 2270 for more information about this event.

The next walk at Hildene will take place on Feb.15. This is the same weekend as Project Feeder Watch (Feb. 14-17) conducted by Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Go to http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc for information on how to participate.
