Grants awarded to local organizations

MANCHESTER - Four nonprofit organizations in Bennington County have received $7,500 in Small and Inspiring grants from the Vermont Community Foundation for local projects. Through its Small and Inspiring grants program, the Community Foundation funds work that helps connect people to their neighbors, their land, and their history in ways that strengthen community.

Community Foundation fundholders partnered with the Foundation in making the grants, which were awarded to local organizations including Bennington Community Contradance, the Dorset Theatre Festival, Oldcastle Theatre Company, and Green Mountain RSVP and Volunteer Center.

Bennington Community Contradance received $500 for their "community-supported dance" share program. The Dorset Theatre Festival received $2,500 to support the Local First Festival, which gives local playwrights a chance to have their work heard and develop community bonds through the arts. Oldcastle Theatre Company received $2,000 to promote youth programming. And the Green Mountain RSVP and Volunteer Center received $2,500 for its Bone Builder program, which helps residents promote bone health through 24 classes across southern Vermont.
