GNAT launches summer video camps

MANCHESTER - Greater Northshire Access Television is offering three video camps in July and August. The first, "Kids Cook Camp," takes place July 14-18, and allows campers to learn television techniques in front of and behind the camera.

Campers learn the process of baking homemade bread and pizza all while scripting, filming, and producing a cooking show in the GNAT Community Kitchen. Next up, July 28-Aug. 1, is the "Stop Motion Animation" camp, which explores the entire process of animation stop-motion filmmaking.

Campers will learn storyboarding, character design, set creation, filming and editing. The third camp, Aug. 11-15, features James Kennedy, the noted children's book author, and his "90 Second Newbery Film Fest Camp." He will visit Vermont for this innovative filmmaking camp. Campers choose a favorite, award winning Newbery book and learn to make a 90 second video depicting an aspect of the story, which may be entered into a national film festival contest. All three camps offer an excellent opportunity for kids to acquire valuable skills while having fun.

GNAT camps are ideal for children ages 9-12, but younger and older campers are encouraged to inquire. All camps take place Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and cost $235. Family discounts and scholarships are available based on financial need.
