GMNF announces 26th Annual Youth Fishing Derby

MANCHESTER >> The Manchester Ranger District of the Green Mountain National Forest, in partnership with Trout Unlimited, is hosting its 26th Annual Youth Fishing Derby at Hapgood Pond Campground in Peru on Saturday, June 11.

For the last 25 years, they have been hosting the kids' fishing derby and it has been fun. They are looking forward to another great event. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with fishing from 9 to 11 a.m. The festivities will continue until about noon. The derby will be held rain or shine! This youth fishing day is being held in conjunction with National Fishing Week, and that Saturday is Free Fishing Day in Vermont!

Area youth, 12 and under, accompanied by an adult, are invited to join in the fun. Contests will be held for longest fish and most fish caught by age group. They are hoping to have a small gift and a certificate of participation for each angler. A visit from "Smokey Bear" is anticipated.

Grab your fishing rod and come to Hapgood Pond to enjoy the sport of fishing on your National Forest. Donations and volunteer help are being provided by many members of the community. Should you wish to donate or if have any questions, contact the Manchester Ranger Station at 802-362-2307.
