GMALL to present 'Frankenstein'
This hi-definition broadcast in an encore performance will be shown in the Riley Center for the Arts at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Tickets are available for purchase online at bbatickets.com or at the door.
"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley was published in 1818, since which time there have been nearly 100 adaptations both on screen and in the theatre. Playwright Nick Dear and director Danny Boyle first discussed collaborating on Frankenstein in the 1990s but it wasn't until 2004 that they revisited the project. They brought their vision to life in the National Theatre's 2011 production.
Originally broadcast by National Theatre Live in March 2011, it has become a global phenomenon, resulting in three encore screenings in more than 25 countries and being seen by nearly a quarter of a million people.
Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch star in the production as Victor Frankenstein and his creature. Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
Green Mountain Academy and Burr and Burton Academy have partnered to bring the stunning National Theatre Live productions to Manchester. National Theatre Live is produced in partnership with Aviva and distributed internationally (ex-UK) by New York-based BY Experience.
