GMALL to offer sewing classes
Introduction to Sewing will be held on Thursday, March 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Stacy's Create with Bogate Studio.
This 2-hour class is for someone who has limited or no experience with a sewing machine. Those who participate will learn to use a sewing machine, measure and cut fabric accurately, understand sewing terminology, and create different stitches and seam finishes. Participants will be making a relaxing aromatherapy eye pillow as they acquire the techniques and tips to become an independent sewer. All fabric, tools and machines are supplied by the instructor. The fee for this course is $30.
Sewing an Envelope Pillow Cover will be held on Thursday, March 28 from 5:30-8:30 pm at Stacy's Create with Bogate Studio.
Creating a new cover for a throw pillow is a fun, fast and easy way to redecorate and enliven a room. In this 3-hour class, you will learn how to make a custom-sized envelope cover for a pillow of your choice. Those who attend will learn to measure their pattern pieces, create professional looking seams and corners and hem techniques. A great project for a beginning sewer or someone who hasn't sewn in a long time. Bring a pillow (or at least its measurements) to class. A minimum of 3/4 yard of medium weight fabric is needed if for those that want to use their own fabric. Otherwise there will be a $5 charge to use Stacy's. The fee for this course is $35.
Sewing a Totebag will be held on Thursday, April 4, from 5:30-8:30 pm at Stacy's Create with Bogate Studio. In this 3-hour class, participants will make a useful, stylish totebag. We will discuss cutting and measuring techniques, learn to make and attach fabric straps, create gussets to make a square bottom on the bag and sew french seams. Another excellent beginners' project. A minimum of 3/4 yard of medium weight fabric is needed if for those that want to use their own fabric or Stacy's fabric may be used for a $5 charge. The fee for this course is $35.
Stacy Gates is an artist and designer living in Manchester Center. She has been sewing for over 35 years, studied fashion design in New York through the New School, has had a line of children's clothing and teaches classes in her home studio and many area schools and organizations through her business, Create with Bogate.
