ARLINGTON - The Arlington Garden Club will be holding a day of celebration on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Community House on Route 7A in the center of Arlington Village beginning at 1 p.m. The Garden Club's Bazaar - which begins at 1 p.m. - will open with handmade table centerpieces and other decorations; tree ornaments, both old and new, table of gift items, "From our House to Yours" (many recycled), Dot's Famous Bake Sale, and a "Home for the Holidays" basket raffle. Vendors will also be on hand with some unusual items. At 4 p.m. the Bazaar ends and Santa arrives for the lighting of the Community Tree. Those in attendance will sing carols, and the Garden Club will have candy for the children as well as cookies and hot cocoa. The village will be aglow with aluminaries along Main Street (Route 7A) set out by the Arlington Garden Club elves. At 5 p.m. the Garden Club will cross the street to St. James Church for the pageant celebrating the story of St. Lucia (Patroness of Light) as portrayed by the children of the parish. Following this a "Swedish Supper" will be served in the Parish Hall.
Funds raised by the Arlington Garden Club support the Community Gardens in town, gardening books at the library, a yearly college scholarship for a high school senior, a junior gardeners program, and table decorations for area senior meals.
