Furniture making classes offered

DORSET - Dorset furniture maker William Laberge is offering an Introductory Furniture Making Class at his workshop.

The weekend class will take place Jan. 25 and 26. In the introductory furniture making class, students will learn about furniture making techniques and bring home a Cherry Shaker End Table.

Laberge will teach students about wood selection, grain matching, design elements, safe use of machinery, mortise and tenon joinery, tapering legs, surface preparation and finishing. This is a fun way to learn some tips and techniques and come away with a piece of furniture.

The class will be held in Laberge's shop located at 5 145 Route 30 in Dorset, just north of the Mettowee Mill Nursery. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26.

The price for the class is $375 plus $75 for materials. Space is limited. Go to www.william

Laberge makes fine custom furniture, individually handcrafted, from time-honored classics to spirited custom designs. His work can be seen in galleries throughout Vermont as well as in his shop/showroom on Route 30.
