From Novice to Novelist, Author Talk and Writing Workshop with Author John DeDakis

MANCHESTER >> Join others at the Northshire Bookstore for an evening with award winning long time CNN journalist, John DeDakis as he discusses his writing process "From Journalist to Novelist ("Or How I Learned to Start Making it Up") This will be a prelude discussion to his writing-workshop which will take place on Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Those planning to attend Saturday's seminar do not need to be signed up for that in order to attend the Friday's event.

This discussion focuses on how personal experience is the grist of fiction. His sister's suicide, a car-train collision he witnessed as a kid, and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru are all experiences that led to the publication of his three mystery-suspense novels, Fast Track, Bluff, and Troubled Waters. To show how real life influences fiction, he will also trace the arc of his nearly 45-year journalism career - from getting tear gassed covering an anti-Vietnam War riot in 1970 to his job as a Senior Copy Editor on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer". John has been a White House Correspondent and interviewed such luminaries as Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. John edits book-length manuscripts and has taught journalism at The University of Maryland-College Park and American University in Washington D.C. He's also led writing workshops throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

By the end of our time together, you will be equipped with the skills to start and perfect your story. This is a ticketed event and seats are limited.
