From Champlain Sea to Lake Champlain

Posted

ARLINGTON >> As part of the of Sunday Afternoon at the Library series, "Paleoindians & The Inland Sea," will take place Sunday, April 3, at 2 p.m. in the Martha Canfield Library Meeting Room, 528 East Arlington Road, with Jess Robinson, Vermont State Archaeologist.

The Champlain Sea was an inland arm of the Atlantic Ocean that occupied the Champlain Basin at the end of the last ice age. Recent research by Mr. Robinson and colleagues suggests that Paleoindians, the first Native Americans to enter Vermont, were drawn to the area partially because of the resources the Champlain Sea contained. Robinson will present a look at this early period in Vermont's ancient past.
