From ballet to painting; new exhbit coming to Dorset Library

DORSET - The Dorset Village Library will present artist Marilyn Cavallari at a public reception on Saturday, Feb. 1. The free reception will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all works will be for sale with proceeds benefiting the library.

Cavallari received her bachelors degree in Fine Arts from the State University College at Buffalo. She then studied art at Pennsylvania State University and finished her degree at SUNYCAB with a focus on art history and painting with oils.

Cavallari gave up painting soon after college to pursue a career in teaching ballet. Three years ago she decided to take up painting but mainly as a hobby. Her hobby has now become her passion.

Cavallari's works are in private homes in Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Texas, Florida, California, New Mexico and the Bahamas. Her work has been shown at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, Milne Library in Williamstown, Mass., Martha Canfield Library in Arlington, Vt, and the Saratoga Preservation Show in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Cavallari's show will extend through the month of February. For more information, contact the library at 867-5774 or visit the website at
