'Freedom & Unity Festival' to be held at Magic Mountain

LONDONDERRY - The Vermonters for Liberty "Freedom & Unity Festival" will be held at Magic Mountain Ski Resort in Londonderry on Saturday, Aug. 16,

The Vermonters for Liberty "Freedom & Unity Festival" is a celebration of the state's tradition of independent people and community spirit from an anti-authoritarian perspective with workshops, presentations, music, games and food. There will be speakers and a marketplace as well as an afternoon acoustic program with Jordan Page, Bill Brink and Rich Angell. Saturday night features Boston's Educate the Antidote, and homegrown rebel grooves from Total Demo, Burlington's Bless the Child and a performance by the Mindfully Discontent Hip Hop All-Stars backed by members of ONEoverZERO.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bruce E. Levine, renegade psychologist and author of "Get Up, Stand Up: Uniting populists, energizing the defeated and battling the corporate elite." His 5 p.m. talk will focus on unifying the Occupy and Libertarian wings of the anti-authoritarian movement and he will also host an interactive workshop on "How Americans Learned Powerlessness and How They Can Regain Energy to Do Battle" from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Check out the Laissez Fair where there will be vendors from near and far, information tables, and more. There will be a TechnoDome, featuring a full day of workshops on Internet security and digital currencies, among others. The Root Center Dome and base lodge will feature DIY presentations and prac tical workshops on freedom and self sufficiency. With over 20 workshops planned there is something for both adults and children. The event will also include games, crafts, sing-alongs and an encouraging environment for "kidtrepeneurs."

A variety of food vendors, will be on site offering up fresh fare. There will also be a pig roast in the afternoon.

Saturday's events begin at 9 a.m. and continue into the night.

The festival is a pet-friendly and family-friendly event with free rustic tent camping and parking for rv's (no hookups). There is pet-friendly lodging within walking distance. No off-site alcohol allowed on the premises.

Tickets are $15 and admission is free for children under 12-years-old.
