Eatery fire still being investigated

WINHALL - Vermont State Police fire investigators and Winhall Police & Rescue are searching for the cause of a fire that destroyed a Winhall restaurant overnight Thursday.

Police say the fire at Stone's Lodge and Fat Spy Tavern located at 1 River Road - formerly known as Haig's in the 1980s and 90s - was reported at about 3:20 a.m. Thursday.

Winhall Fire Department along with several neighboring fire departments were dispatched for a report of fire on the roof.

After what Winhall Police described as "an extensive firefighting operation," the restaurant, night club, and tavern portion of the building were a complete loss.

Firefighters were able to save a lodging portion of the building.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and continues to be investigated by Winhall Police & Rescue Department and the State Fire Investigation Team.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Winhall police at 802-297-2121.
