Discover Dorset readies for Sept. 7-8

DORSET - Over two dozen events will take place in and around Dorset during the Discover Dorset Fall Festival on Sept. 7-8.

On the Dorset Green there will be a town-wide scavenger hunt, a pie-judging contest, pottery decorating, and a concert with local bluegrass sensation Gold Town.

There will be children's games on the lawn at the Barrows House, a cooking demonstration with Chef Ray Chen at the Inn at West View Farm, and a tour of the new mountain bike trail.

On Sunday the Dorset Firehouse will be cooking up a pancake breakfast under the direction of H. N. Williams chef Ali Sherman.

There will be an art show "Dorset Artists Then and Now"and the chance to visit the studios of fine furniture makers William Laberge and Steven Holman. A Vermont cheese-tasting will be hosted by the Dorset Inn. A pastry chef will answer all of the public's questions about making the perfect pie crust at J. K. Adams Kitchen Store, and Someday Farm stand will have farm animals for petting and their own produce for eating.

Mettowee Mill Nursery and Landscaping will be celebrating its 40th year that Saturday with gardening speakers, demonstrations, and drawings for gift certificates.

The Dorset Historical Society will demonstrate how to make apple cider using an antique cider press and provide maps for self-guided tours.

"Discover Dorset will be an exciting and eventful weekend with something for all ages," said Roger Squire, one of the organizers of the festival. "We are looking forward to welcoming friends old and new to enjoy the beauty and talent of Dorset."
