Desert Storm Veterans Memorial Highway
To the Editor:
Desert Storm Veterans Memorial Highway: Vermont Veterans of Foreign Wars tried to get Vermont Route 103 named for these Veterans and their families and discovered that half of VT Route 103 was named for Calvin Coolidge back in the 30's. We have re-petitioned Vermont State asking that Vermont Route 22A from Fair Haven in the south to Ferrisburg in the North be named "The Desert Storm Veterans Memorial Highway. All 10 Town select boards along Route 22A have received a letter from us asking for their support. March 3rd marked 25 years since total victory in Desert Storm giving Freedom back to Kuwait. This was the largest call up of reserves and deployment of troops in Vermont since the end of Vietnam almost 50 years ago.
A petition of over 134 names of Vermonters eighteen years and older from all over the State has been sent to the board of Transportation and has been accepted. We ask that you please support this new effort to honor this group of deserving US war veterans and their families. The Board will meet at a to be announced location and date in the near future to conduct a public hearing on this request. Please support this honorable tribute to Desert storm Veterans by sending a letter or card to: Vermont Board of Transportation, Attention: John Zicconi, 14 Baldwin Street, Montpelier, VT 05602 asking them to name Vermont Route 22A, "The Desert Storm Veterans Memorial Highway. We Thank you all in advance for supporting this project.
Steve Leach, U.S. Army Retired, VT State VFW Committee Chairman to name VT Route 22A
